Would I Read a Book by Tiger Woods Now?

Most people on the planet are familiar with the Tiger Woods incident, and how his life has been affected. Several of his sponsors have dropped him, his wife is divorcing him, he has taken a leave of absence from golf, and he stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars from his poor decisions. The guy who was the most recognized and one of the most loved athletes in the world is now one of the most hated, and fallen from his pedestal. So the question is, "Would I read a book by Tiger Woods Now?"

Let me start by saying that I am appalled by Tiger's actions, and it makes me sick. He made his choices. Now he must face the consequences. I am a Christian, a father, and a husband (and I try to be the best I can at all of those) so I do not agree with what he did at all. But I would still read one of his books.

Whatever Tiger has done off the course, and whatever character issues he may have, you can still learn a lot from him. He is one of the most amazing athletes ever and his biggest trait is his ability to focus. That is what I would study. I would study Tiger's work ethic, how he prepares, and how he trains his mind to focus even in difficult situations.

Notice I didn't say I would see how he lives his life and handles his duties as a father and husband. You can learn from anyone. Just make sure you separate what you need to learn from "the other stuff."

We as a society love to shoot holes in people. We have the honeymoon with them, where we think they walk on water, but when we find that they're not perfect we want to pull them down and trash them. This is not meant to be an attack on or defense of Tiger. I'm just saying that many times we miss out on some great lessons because we are too busy focusing on the negative issues with the one who may be the best to learn that thing from.

Again, this has nothing to do with Tiger. He is just a headline that everyone is familiar with, and his name probably drew you to this article. I don't know Tiger and I hope he gets his life straightened out, but I'm not going to get concerned with his life. I have my own life to live... That's another article topic in itself. Don't refuse to learn from the one with the wisdom you need, because you disagree on another topic.
